Welcome to Cults Library Trust
Welcome to Cults Library Trust, a new charitable organisation dedicated to reopening Cults Library and transforming it into a vibrant community hub for learning, culture, and connection.
Libraries are at the heart of strong communities – they are spaces where people of all ages can learn, engage, and find support. When Cults Library closed in 2023, the loss was deeply felt across Lower Deeside. However, the community’s passion for its library never faded. That’s why we formed Cults Library Trust: to restore this cherished facility and give it a new lease of life.
Our vision goes beyond simply reopening the library. We aim to create a welcoming, inclusive space that supports literacy, lifelong learning, social wellbeing, and community activities. Whether you’re looking for a good book, a quiet place to study, a space to host events, or a warm and friendly environment to meet others, our goal is to make the new Cults Library a place for everyone.
As part of our mission, we’re also committed to delivering outreach projects across the local area – bringing library services, learning opportunities, and cultural activities directly into the community to reach even more people.
We’re in the process of moving to a new website that gives us much more flexibility as the Cults Library Trust grows.
Our new beta website allows us to share more up-to-date information about the project, post regular news and updates, and communicate more easily with the community. It also includes new features such as:
Email newsletter sign-ups, so you can stay informed about progress and opportunities
Membership sign-up options
The ability to make donations to support the project
Improved access to key information and forms
While we complete the domain transfer, both websites will be available. For the most up-to-date information, we recommend visiting our new beta website using the link below.
We’d also welcome any feedback as we continue to develop and improve the site.

At Cults Library Trust, our vision is to create a thriving, sustainable library and community hub that serves the people of Cults and the wider Lower Deeside area. We believe that libraries are more than just buildings - they are spaces that bring people together, support learning, and enhance wellbeing.
The primary goal of the public consultation is to gather the views of everyone across the community to guide the redevelopment of Cults Library.
By understanding what the community needs, prefers, and suggests, together we can create a welcoming and functional space that serves everyone, acrosss all generation within the community.
Exciting News: The Cults Library Trust is Officially Established!
The closure of several libraries across Aberdeen was a significant loss for our communities. However, today marks a major step forward in our efforts to reopen one of them - Cults Library. With our newly granted charitable status from OSCR, Scotland's Charity Regulator, we are now preparing to submit our full and final Community Asset Transfer request. This brings us closer to restoring Cults Library as a vital community-based educational facility.
David Laing, Chairperson commented "As Chair of the newly founded Cults Library Trust, I am incredibly optimistic about the future. I look forward to working closely with local partners, supporters, and Aberdeen City Council to bring this project to
life. If you're passionate about community, education, and the power of libraries, we'd love to have you involved. Please feel free to reach out!"
